Where will my massage or bodywork session take place?
The treatment room is the second door on the right inside of Blu Lotus Spa & Salon.  The lights in the room will be fully on while we discuss intake paperwork, new or existing medical conditions or medications, and goals for the session.  The lights will remain on while you get undressed and settled on the massage table.  The lights will be dimmed when I reenter the room, before the session begins.  Relaxing, but upbeat music will be playing, but you can request to listen to anything that would be relaxing to you.  An essential oil diffuser is used for aromatherapy as well, please let me know if there are any aromatherapy requests.  These can be added to the notes section during booking.

Must I be completely undressed?
It is ideal for the client to be fully undressed, however it is completely up to you and your comfort level.  Please do be advised I may have to modify techniques if clothing is left on and is covering an area that will be worked on.

Will the practitioner be present when I disrobe?
While you undress, get under the sheet, and blanket if it’s being used, and relax onto the table, I will leave the room.  Before entering I will knock on the door to be sure you are ready.

Will I be covered during the session?
All areas that are not being worked on will remain covered.

What parts of my body will be massaged?
Before the session we will discuss any areas that you would or would not like worked on, as well as any areas you might want a greater focus on.  I also take an intuitive approach at times, which means I will spend more time on areas that feel more tense or need more work.  Glutes and hips will be worked over the sheet while you remain covered, and if work on the chest or abdomen is requested you will be adequately dropped to ensure breast coverage.  If you have any further questions or concerns regarding this, please let me know!

What will the massage or bodywork feel like?
This will depend on the type of massage or bodywork you will receive.  If your goals are to relax, less pressure will generally be used, but can be increased or decreased based on your preferences.  For more therapeutic sessions we describe the sensations as more of a “hurt so good” kind of feeling.  If we use a 0-10 pain scale 0 being no pain, and 10 being absolutely awful, worst pain of your life, our sweet spot would be around a 6/7.  You should be able to breathe and remain relaxed while the work is being done, otherwise the work being done won’t be effective for you.  You’re always welcome to request more or less pressure, or advise if something hurts or is uncomfortable during your session.

Are there different kinds of massage and bodywork?
There are numerous types of massage and bodywork; various techniques utilize different strokes, including basic rubbing strokes, rocking movement, posture and movement re-education, application of pressure to specific points, and more. We can discuss which methods may be most appropriate for you.

What should I do during the massage or bodywork session?
Most of the time all you need to do is relax!  There may be moments when I ask for movement to make a movement more effective, or let you know if I’m going to passively move an arm or a leg.  The goal is for you to be as relaxed as possible!  It is also perfectly fine if you fall asleep!.

How will I feel after the massage or bodywork session?
The goal is for you to feel relaxed and renewed!  If there were aches and pains before, they will hopefully be relieved or at least less present.  More than one session may be needed for better results.  Massage benefits compound with each additional session.

What are the benefits of massage and bodywork?
Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's imperative that, before you begin your session, I will have you complete intake paperwork and ask general health questions. It is very important that you let me know of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
